About Knitting & Gauges
The Mantegna website some times mentions the knitting ‘gauge’ for some knitwear.
Gauge is the number of stitches per inch in a knitted piece.
The thicker the yarn, the larger the needle used and the bigger the stitches it makes.
The finer the yarn, the smaller the needle used and the smaller the stitches.
Lower gauge numbers indicate a thicker knit. For example, 5 gauge is quite a thick knit. Alternatively, our 16 gauge cashmere/silk knitwear is very fine and dense.
The classic regular knit is a 12 gauge.
Please note, each garment may vary slightly in size due to our hand-finishing process.
All styles have been photographed in size Small. Other sizes will be longer, especially size XL and XXL might be much longer.
